Medland Hospital joins the United Nations Climate Champions Race to Zero Campaign

Medland Hospital, as a member of Health Care Without Harm’s Health Care Climate

Challenge, announced today that it has joined the United Nations-backed Race to Zero

campaign. By joining the Race to Zero, Medland Hospital is committed to achieving net zero

emissions by 2050.

Medland Hospital is joining over 70 health care institutions worldwide, collectively

representing over 14,000 healthcare facilities, leading the effort to decarbonize as part of

the global transition to a zero-carbon economy. The UN Race to Zero campaign is the largest

alliance of non-government organizations committed to reducing climate pollution.

“Excited to stand with hospitals and health systems worldwide, as Medland Hospital joins

the Race to Zero! A call to action for governments to amplify their commitments to the Paris

Agreement and reaffirming that every sector has a part to play in the speedy shift towards a

sustainable, resilient, zero-carbon economy. Let’s embrace the change together for a

healthier planet.”, Dr. Mohamed El Sahili, CEO, Medland Hospital.

In the lead-up to COP28, Race to Zero health care leadership is part of a diverse and growing

global health sector movement for climate action. National government ministries are

making high-level commitments to health care decarbonization and resilience, while more

than 45 million health professionals have called for aggressive action to protect people’s

health from climate change.
