Recent Situation in Lebanon

(Statement by Foreign Minister KAMIKAWA Yoko)

 

1. With regard to the recent situation in Lebanon, Japan is strongly concerned about the escalation of tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, and deeply saddened by numerous civilian casualties, including women and children. Japan extends its heartfelt condolences to the victims and their bereaved family members, and also expresses its deepest sympathy to those who were injured.

 

2. Japan urges all parties to immediately take all measures to prevent civilian casualties, and calls for full implementation of relevant UN Security Council Resolutions, including UNSCR 1701 as well as abiding by international law, including international humanitarian law. At the same time, Japan strongly urges them to exercise the utmost restraint to avoid further escalation.
